Breaking down the basic accounting equation of Assets = Liabilities + Owners’ Equity into smaller pieces.
An example would be breaking down Owners’ Equity into Owners’ Equity equals Contributed Capital + Retained Earnings. Retained Earnings can be further broken down into Retained Earnings = Net Income –Dividends.
