Accounting For Change: Long Beach Rescue Mission & Arabian Rescue Mission

lbrm3

This week, we’re celebrating the launch of our company-wide program, #AccountingForChange, an employee volunteer initiative where team members across the country are encouraged to take time out of their regular work days to give back to an organization of their choice.

We continue featuring different employees partaking in this initiative in a series we’re calling “Volunteer Spotlight.” Today we’re highlighting team members who gave back by helping at their local rescue missions.

Volunteer Spotlight: Madeleine Cheezum & Andrea Johnson

Madeleine Cheezum (Director of Creative Services) and Andrea Johnson (Business Development Representative) spent their time at the Long Beach Rescue Mission’s Thanksgiving Day meal prep.

Long Beach Rescue Mission

This organization’s mission is to provide shelter for men, women, and children, and meals for over 275,000 people in need per year. Their programs give hope, change lives, and provide career training so that those in need have the resources at hand to get the better life they deserve.

Their Experience

“Volunteering for Thanksgiving dinner preparation at the Long Beach Rescue Mission was such a wonderful experience! They have a devoted full time staff and it was nice to see how many volunteers from the community came out to help. It was heartwarming to see so many people working together to prepare all of the fixings to bring some holiday cheer to those in need. The LBRM is a great organization and I am greatly looking forward to continued service with them.” –Andrea Johnson

“I’ve always wanted to volunteer on Thanksgiving day to help serve families in need, but admit that I’ve put my own family first. But since I joined the Long Beach Rescue Mission volunteer roster this year, I learned they need help to pull off such a huge feast days in advance! So, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Andrea and I helped prepare food for their Thanksgiving Day meal. We made 15 trays of stuffing, two giant vats of cranberry sauce, and sliced a ton of turkey. They were expecting about 900 guests throughout the day! I’m very thankful to the Roger CPA Review #AccountingForChange program, which gives me some time during my work day to help serve the community.” –Madeleine Cheezum

Volunteer Spotlight: Karina Khadaran, PHR, SHRM-CP

Karina Khadaran (Senior Marketing & Business Development Representative) spent her volunteer time at Arabian Rescue Mission in Wantage, NJ.

Arabian Rescue Mission

This organization’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and place horses, specifically Arabian horses, who have been neglected, abused, or unwanted. They also aim to educate people in the care, nutrition, and responsibility of horse ownership that such a committing relationship requires.

Karina’s Experience

“I spent the majority of my time cleaning the stables and brushing the hair of their largest horse. I had a great time despite the very cold weather. As an avid animal lover, I am so grateful for the time we were allowed to volunteer for causes and organizations we are passionate about. Since I never have time to volunteer on the weekends, being a busy mom and wife, #AccountingForChange has given me the opportunity to actively participate in animal rescue; something I care deeply about.” –Karina Khadaran
