CPA Exam Blogger Daniela: AUD Week 1

Daniela resides in the great state of Pennsylvania. She begins her CPA Exam journey with the perspective of a Masters in Accountancy and a new job as a Tax Staff Accountant with a top 100 accounting firm. Daniela just passed FAR on her first try, and is now preparing to tackle AUD!

Finally! Tax season is over.  It was a tough last push to the end but everything got done and now were back on cruise control.  We had a wonderful end of tax season/employee appreciation party on the 15th and we were given the 16th off.  Now its back to reality and for me that means back to studying for the CPA Exam.

After putting off studying for as long as possible, I started studying again this evening by watching the intro videos and the Generally Accepted Auditing Standards video.  I forgot how entertaining the videos really are.  Roger has got some great jokes but they really help drive home the point that he is talking about (or they are just funny).  I’m never going to forget whose financial statements these are! (Do you yell the answers at your computer screen too?)  I also enjoy how Roger incorporates topics from the other sections to show how it all fits together.  When Roger mentions FAR, I’m relieved that I got that section in the bag.

As far as GAAS goes, I know that I had it memorized years ago in my undergrad but this time I’m going to really learn it and understand.  Roger cites the importance of understanding the material versus just memorizing and forgetting it, like I have done in the past.  Hopefully this will help me out not only on test day but also in my career in public accounting.  I think it is important for the tax and audit sides to be able to communicate effectively and what better way to accomplish this than to try to understand what they do.  Also, now that I’ve seen some of the work done by the auditors in my firm perhaps this second round of learning auditing and attestation will stick.  Either way I am excited to see what Roger has to say next.
