Daniela resides in the great state of Pennsylvania. She begins her CPA Exam journey with the perspective of a Masters in Accountancy and a new job as a Tax Staff Accountant with a top 100 accounting firm.
While I wait to hear my fate, aka FAR score, I have my first busy season in a public accounting firm to keep me occupied. For me personally the busy season workload has not officially hit. I am busier than I was but not as busy as some of my coworkers are. Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of work (over 500 hours) on my schedule but most of it is on hold. I have a large variety of work on my schedule and I am excited to really get started. The majority of my work for the next two months is 1040, 1041, 1120S and 1065 prep. I know that the floodgates will open any day now and I’ll be wishing for these moments of calm that I have now.
As I stated, this is my first busy season and this is also the first public accounting firm that I have ever worked for. That being said I am not sure of the industry norms, but it seems to me that my firm really goes above and beyond to make everyone as comfortable as possible, and dare I say have a little fun, during busy season. We have a music theme for this busy season and decorations have been hung in our beautiful cafe. We already have so many nice accommodations like tons of Keurig coffee, a cappuccino machine, a popcorn machine and all the candy you could eat and now they are feeding us even more. We have dinner three times a week and breakfast and lunch on Saturdays. It will be a miracle if I don’t gain 20 pounds before April! We have trivia contests, bingo, coffee socials and of course what everyone is looking forward to the April 15th party!
Overall my first busy season has been so far so good ask me again in two weeks! Also, keep your fingers crossed for my FAR score that comes out approximately February 25th!
