CPA Exam Blogger Daniela: Staying Motivated

Daniela resides in the great state of Pennsylvania. She begins her CPA Exam journey with the perspective of a Masters in Accountancy and a new job as a Tax Staff Accountant with a top 100 accounting firm. Daniela just passed FAR on her first try, and is now preparing to tackle AUD!

Test day is less than a month away and I am really struggling to stay motivated.

There I said it! I am having trouble sticking to my study schedule.  I’m still a little burnt out from tax season and the weather in Pennsylvania is finally starting to get nice.  All I really want to do is relax outside with an umbrella drink after I get out of the office. Once I sit down to study I am fine because Roger really does keep me entertained and wanting to learn more.  My problem is actually sitting down to study, writing notes and doing the homework.  It is just so easy to get life get in the way.

So, I have decided to use one of my motivators from my college days buying stuff!  No, I am not going on a shopping spree for clothes and shoes although I wish that I was.  I like to buy brand new pencils, colored pens, notebooks, paper, note cards, etc. to help myself get excited about note taking and homework problems.  If all I had to do was watch Rogers videos to pass the CPA Exam (I hear that some do but I’m not that lucky), I would not have any problem studying.  It is the note taking, multiple choice questions and task simulations that really make it tough.  When I have new materials to write with and on, it makes sitting down to study just a little easier.  Also, I think that I am going to try to do some studying outside as well.  Perhaps the warm sun and fresh breeze will make doing homework fun.  How do you stay motivated?
