While you may have given plenty of second chances to the people around you, remember that this phrase is also very applicable to yourself. As a CPA Exam candidate, there’s lots of challenges you encounter in juggling life with passing the exam. So here’s a list of areas to remember to give yourself second chances in to overcome obstacles and achieve your goal.
If you’ve fallen behind on your study plan…
One of the things that our course highly emphasizes is the importance of creating a study plan and sticking to it very strictly. Reaching your study goal each day is the only way that you will be able to pass in the projected time you designated for yourself. But, of course, life has a habit of getting in the way, and as things come up, you may start to get off track.
If you fall behind days, weeks, or months, don’t get discouraged. Give yourself a second chance. Re-evaluate your time frame, re-work your study plan, and get back on track slowly but surely. Don’t let this bring you down. Instead, simply create a solution to meet your changing circumstances and move on.
If you’ve failed one or more sections of the CPA Exam…
Don’t worry—you’re not alone. In fact, less than half the people who take the CPA Exam pass the first time around. Don’t let this discourage you; it just means that sometimes you have to find your study and test-taking groove in order to be successful. This probably means adjusting your study techniques accordingly and using your failures as learning lessons to help you improve next time. Many candidates normally pass the second or third time around.
With that being said, give yourself a second or third chance when it comes to re-taking failed sections. Persistence, commitment, and dedication are key. Sometimes it’s harder to find the motivation to study rather than passing the actual exam itself. Just remember that it will all be worth it in the end and remind yourself of why you want to become a CPA in the first place!
If you’ve started this journey before but haven’t finished it…
There are lots of candidates out there who started studying for the CPA Exam at some time in the past but did not continue for one reason or another. From our personal experience with our students, reasons vary from failing with another review course to having to deal with strenuous situations that prevented them from passing the CPA Exam. Most of the time, it’s difficult to get back on the horse after leaving studies behind for several months or years. But something many of these candidates have in common is always having the idea of obtaining their CPA license in the back of their head.
If you can relate to this situation, we believe that giving yourself a second chance now is more important than ever. Pick up where you left off, or start over and don’t let that one part of your life fill the rest with regret or dissatisfaction. Starting over might be just the thing you need to earn those 3 letters after your name. Where there’s a will, there’s a way! Believe in yourself and everything else will follow suit.
