Hi All:
I thought that after passing the CPA Exam that life would settle down a bit and I would begin to enjoy all of the extra free time that I previously spent studying.
I must be a glutton for punishment because my husband and I decided (during the vacation described in my last post) to buy a new house and to list our current one.
While we had some reservations making the new purchase first, we felt like our soon to be new home was too good a deal to pass up. We affectionately call our new place the money pit. It is a major construction overhaul requiring new paint inside and out, carpet, stucco repair, kitchen countertops and appliances.
In the past two months, we’ve completed the majority of the renovation on the new place, did major roof repairs and sold the old place, and moved everything we own a whopping two miles from our old house! Our new home will give us lots of opportunity to be outside with a bigger yard and pool. I am so looking forward to spending every moment possible outside next summer!
All of the work on the new place has been challenging, but fun. Its so nice to work on a weekend house project rather than studying in a back room at home trying to absorb the latest CPA study materials. Who would have thought that scrubbing cabinets and lining shelves would be so much fun?
As for my license, I received it this week! Texas has a few more hoops to jump through in addition to simply passing the exam. After passing, I had to get an affidavit of my work experience from my boss, obtain support for his qualifications as a CPA since he is licensed out of state, pass an online ethics class, complete a take home program of the rules of professional conduct and, of course, send the state some MORE money for processing my application and issuing my license.
Yippppeeeeeee! I finally feel like all of the hard work to pass the CPA Exam was worth it.
I’ve got a job that I love, wonderfully supportive friends and family ,and a new CPA certificate to add to my office wall. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and cherished all of the blessings that I am thankful for.
I hope that all of you continue to persevere in the CPA exam quest. In the end, it is sooooooooooooo worth it!
Happy Holidays to all of you.
