I’m delighted to have this opportunity to be a guest blogger with Roger CPA Review! I’ll be sharing my journey with you weekly for the next few months. I hope that sharing my experience will make you feel you are not going through this alone.
Let me tell you a little about myself.
I’m a mom, working full time as a controller, and on my way to be a CPA! My CPA journey started about 10 years ago. This is not my first attempt at the CPA exam, but I think I’m on the right track this time around. Are you wondering why I’m saying this? I have more real life accounting experience and I’m more determined to fulfil that dream that I had since I was in college.
After college, I immediately started working towards my master’s degree to get the needed credits to fulfil the educational requirements.
It was just around the same time they switched to the computerized exam. I was newlywed and there was lots going on in my life. I took the exams one at a time, with a few month in-between. I started with the easy ones and left FAR till the end, which I think was a big mistake. I passed AUD, REG and BEC on the try, seems easy, right? Well, FAR was different. I didn’t pass on my 1st try or the 2nd, and then guess what happened? I was pregnant and was expecting the baby right about the same time I was ready to sit for FAR for the 3rd time.
My precious little baby arrived and my life completely changed!
If you are a 1st time parent, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Between the diaper changes, the sleepless nights and the doctor appointments, the CPA was the last thing on my mind. Then after my maternity leave ended, I went back to work fulltime and life was crazy busy. It wasn’t long before I started losing credit for the sections I passed, one after the other. My dream was slipping away a little more each day.
For years, every time I thought about what happened I felt so mad at myself but I didn’t do anything about it….
Fast forward a few years to when I was due for a big promotion at work and someone suggested that I get my CPA to make it happen. I thought to myself, how am I going to make this work? With school age children and a full time job, when will I ever find time to study? My husband was very supportive of the idea and the kids were excited that mommy will be studying too.
I did lots of research to find the right review course, this time I couldn’t just settle for any one.
I needed a course that is very flexible with engaging, focused, and short lectures. I also wanted mobile apps and the audio course so I can study anytime and anywhere. There was only one course that had everything on my long list of demands and more. I signed up for the Roger CPA review and I couldn’t have been happier, I just never though that CPA lectures would make me laugh, but Roger has his way of delivering the materials in a super fun way! Stay tuned, next week I will dive into the details….
