What do you do at Roger CPA Review?
As Email Marketing Coordinator, I do probably what you imagined: coordinate and create Roger CPA Review emails. Working with different departments, I try to create helpful, engaging, and entertaining emails that (hopefully) resonate with people. It’s not just me, though. I work with a great team that helps shape the look, feel, and message of each email so we’re sending out relevant info, instead of boring spam.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Roger CPA Review?
I’ve only been here a little over a month, but I’d have to say the company culture and people. I’ve never worked at a company where everyone was so passionate and determined. In my previous roles, it mostly felt like everybody was working for the paycheck or the weekend (Loverboy doesn’t lie).
Here at Roger CPA Review, I get to work with people who are truly excited and enthusiastic about what they do. It’s extremely refreshing. Not to mention, everyone I’ve worked with is super smart, kind, and genuinely helpful. As I said, I’ve only been working here for about a month, but everyone has made me feel so welcome and part of the team from day 1.
How does your current position influence what you’re passionate about?
This may sound lame, but marketing is a passion of mine. I find it interesting how marketing can affect and influence people’s opinions; good and bad. I’ve always been especially interested in email marketing because I feel it’s more personal. You’re reaching out to someone directly; not just hoping they stumble across your message. But with that great power comes great responsibility (RIP Uncle Ben Parker). You have to make sure that what you’re saying is relevant. Otherwise, you’re not helping or engaging with anyone.
If you could go back in time and do one thing over, what would it be and why?
Hmm. If I could, I’d probably go back to when I was in seventh grade. I’d tell the track coach Mr. Warner that drills running backwards are stupid. Someone could fall and break their wrist. Not being able to use your dominant hand is awful. But if I’m being honest, I probably wouldn’t mess with time travel. It never works out well. Just look at every time travel movie ever (the best being Back to the Future Part 1).
Who has impacted you the most in your life and how?
Wow, this is a difficult question. I’d have to say my parents. They raised me into the person I am today. Without them, I wouldn’t exist, and that is pretty impactful. Also, my grandpa Gus. He passed on a lot of his wisdom as I was growing up. One piece he passed along that sticks out: A cold beer is required for any repair work on the house or car. Unfortunately, I had to wait until I was 21 to find out he was right.
What piece of career or life advice would you give to recent college graduates?
It may sound stupid, but try not to take life too seriously. Of course, it’s important to get a good job, work hard, etc. But it’s also important to take a moment to enjoy life. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. You’ll face a lot of unexpected challenges in life. Worrying about them isn’t going to change anything. Keep them in perspective, and take it one step at a time.
If you could have dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
I’d like to have dinner with Jack White. He’s one of my favorite musicians and seems like an extremely interesting person. It’d be interesting to hear about his influences, creative process, and maybe get a hint of what his next project could be. Plus, just hearing stories from all the groups he’s been in. He also seems like he has a great sense of humor.
