February 2012 Student of the Month: Megan Derrington

Our February spotlight is on Megan Derrington. She’s passed two sections of the CPA Exam with Roger and can’t wait to conquer the next two! Megan recommends, “Take the word ‘Failure’ out of your vocabulary…”

Why did you take Roger CPA Review?

I (like a lot of people) tried Becker first because they were so popular. Without doing any research, I spent about $3,000 on their full course. After failing Audit with a 56, I decided to research my review program more. I knew I could pass the exam, but I needed a way to understand the material better then I found Roger CPA Review!

What was your favorite aspect of the course?

Roger himself! I woke up every morning at 4:30 to study and looked forward to Roger’s high-energy lectures. I literally would LOL sometimes at his jokes and stories (i.e. moonlighting as a bartender while working for Deloitte). He also has an uncanny way of taking the most boring topic and making it interesting and easy to learn.

What piece of advice do you have for other CPA Exam candidates?

Don’t give up and don’t get discouraged. I brought my AUD score up 26 points, which I attribute to Roger’s lectures, mnemonics, intense note-taking, and countless MCQ’s. Getting a 56 on Audit the first time was both embarrassing and shocking. But in hindsight I think it was exactly what I needed. I first was angry and disappointed after receiving my failing score but this turned into an intense motivation to pass! Everyone who has “CPA” behind their name has earned it and you will too – but you’ve got to be willing to work for it.
