Education Requirements

Credit Requirements: 150 semester units (225 quarter units)

Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate with 150 semester units

Additional Requirements: At least 30 semester units of accounting courses (intermediate level or higher), including financial accounting theory, cost or managerial accounting, taxation, auditing, accounting information systems, and government or not-for-profit accounting. At least 30 semester units of general business courses, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, business law, marketing, management, finance, business ethics, and principles of accounting

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is not required

Minimum Age: None

Additional Requirements: Candidate must be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

Social Security Requirement: Yes

Educational Requirement: 150 Semester hours (including Bachelor’s Degree)

Participates in International Exam Program: Yes

Experience Requirements: 2 years (4,000 hours) of work experience verified by a CPA within the registered firm acquired through academia, industry, or public accounting; OR 3 years of work experience within a government department within the Nebraska Auditor Public Accounts, Nebraska Dept. of Revenue or Federal Internal Revenue Service

Note: Nebraska is a two-tier state meaning you are able to apply for a CPA certificate after successful completion of the CPA Exam and Professional Ethics Course. All experiential requirements must be met in order to be licensed and granted a Nebraska CPA Permit to Practice.
