Texas CPA Exam Education Requirements

Credit Requirements: 150 semester units (225 quarter units)

Minimum Degree: Baccalaureate with 150 semester units

Additional Requirements: 30 hrs or equivalent quarter hrs of ACCT courses (15 hours requires physical attendance on campus; 2 credit hours required in accounting or taxation research and analysis). 24 upper level hrs in business courses. 3 hrs of Board-approved Ethics course

COVID-19 Update: Physical attendance requirement currently waived.

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is not required

Minimum Age: None

Additional Requirements: It is not necessary to be a resident, employee, or keep office(s) in the state

Social Security Requirement: Yes

Educational Requirement: 150 Semester hours

Participates in International Exam Program: Yes

Experience Requirements: Must have 2,000 hours in full- or part-time employment that extends over a period of no less than 1 year and no more than 3 years. Experience must be obtained in attest services including audits, compilations, reviews, and other assurance engagements OR professional services in one or more of the following: issuing reports on financial statements, management or financial advisory or consulting services, preparing tax returns, providing advice in tax matters, forensic accounting services, or internal auditing services

Ethics Exam: Must pass exam on Texas Rules of Professional Conduct
