Why did you take Roger CPA Review?
After graduating with my Bachelor’s of Accountancy from Walsh College (located in Troy, MI), I moved to Summit County, CO. I was lucky enough to start my accounting career in the ski industry as a Staff Accountant about a week after graduating and moving. When researching between different review materials offered for the CPA Exam, I found Roger CPA Review. Right off the bat, I knew Roger was a much better fit for my learning style and budget than many of the other competitors. I did not want to get stuck watching boring video lectures from Becker while paying top dollar out of my own pocket.
How did you hear about our review course?
I heard about Roger CPA Review from a few friends in the metro Detroit area and professors at Walsh College. I also was able to speak to a Roger CPA Advisor, Jason Figler. He helped answer all of my questions, and shared his own personal journey when studying for the CPA Exam.
What was your favorite aspect of the course?
I purchased the elite package with all the “bells and whistles”, and it was totally worth it! I really enjoyed the video lectures, textbooks, note cards, interactive practice questions, and audio lectures (so everything!). I utilized all of these tools to absorb the material and pass all four sections on the first try (while also working full time at a ski resort)! I think Roger is an absolutely amazing accounting professor. He keeps the lectures as fresh and entertaining as possible. Accounting can be inherently boring at times, but Roger gets to the point and was a pleasure to watch and study with.
How has passing the exam affected your personal and professional life?
Passing the CPA Exam positively affected my personal and professional life. My family, friends, coworkers, and managers have been very supportive during my CPA Exam journey. Anyone who is not willing to emotionally support you during the CPA Exam is not worth your time (take it from me personally, I had a tough break up after passing my third exam). Some people will not understand the amount of dedication and determination needed to pass the exams. Please try not to be stressed out, and just go for it. I feel empowered and inspired by having taken and passed the CPA Exam.
What piece of advice do you have for other CPA Exam candidates?
The main thing holding most people back from accomplishing their goals is self-limiting beliefs. The assumptions or perceptions that they aren’t “good enough” or “smart enough”. Believe me, you are enough. All you have to do is try your best, try not to stress, and believe. If you put in the work, it will pay off. Put forth the time, effort, and personal investment. You will not be disappointed.
Favorite quote?
"Get comfortable being uncomfortable". True growth and development does not come easy, but it is worth the fight. Get out of your comfort zone. If it were easy, it simply wouldn't be as nearly worth it.
