Frequently Asked Questions

The CIA exam is made up of multiple-choice questions. Part 1 includes 125 questions, while Parts 2 and 3 have 100 questions each.
To pass Part 1, Part 2, or Part 3 of the CIA exam, you must earn a minimum score of 600. Any score below 600 will require a retest. Using the UWorld CIA Review QBank to practice before exam day will increase your chances of passing the CIA exam the first time.
No. Before a question is approved for scored exam usage, it undergoes field testing to make sure it accurately and equitably assesses candidate knowledge. This means there will be a small number of questions on your exam that will not count toward your final score.
The new CIA Exam Syllabus will be published by the IIA in May 2024 for a revised CIA exam available for testing beginning May 2025. Question counts per exam part and eligibility requirements will not change. Neither will the minimum score requirement. Tested content across all three parts will receive updates reflecting the new International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
