Consumer Price Index

Accounting Dictionary

Consumer Price Index

This measures the changes in price of a market basket of goods and services. Examples of things that are typically included are housing costs, food, and transportation costs.

This is supposed to be an index of inflation but the Consumer Price Index can be manipulated by changing the weighting of its components.
