Hello everyone! Another night, another video and another few run thrus of the homework questions. At times, this journey is exciting, while at other times its daunting. But one thing is for sure its a journey. I want to share with you my experience with my CPA journey that started back in February of 2012 when I found that New York changed their licensing requirements and made it possible for me to obtain my CPA and motivate you if you are considering sitting of the CPA Exam.
I have devoted most of my professional accounting career to working in Federal Government accounting, which due to New York states previous 8-month auditing requirement, made it virtually impossible for me to obtain my CPA unless I found another job. In July 2011, New York changed their requirement to one year of general accounting experience to include Federal Government accounting. Thats right I can now qualify (assuming I can pass all four exams) to obtain my CPA license.
I spent the next three months identifying the best review course for my learning style, and of course I selected Roger!!! I began my actual studies in June 2012 and sat for FAR in August 2012. And yes, I passed with flying colors. I am now studying for AUD and will test in November 2012. At this point, Im almost half way there, but half way there still seems so far away.
Getting to this point has been hard and painful. I have given up family outings, the radio (I listen to Rogers videos thru my iPhone during my commute) and my favorite television show The Big Bang Theory. I can say the pain is short lived, because once you get your score and you see that all of the hard work and sacrifice paid off, the joy is so much greater! Being a journey, I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many great people who are going thru this too. I’ve found that everyone has great stories and reasons for chasing the CPA, but more than that, we all understand the process including the pain and joy.
If you are thinking about going for the CPA do it. Don’t wait for the perfect time, because your ideal perfect time will never arrive. Get ready for an exciting journey filled with new experiences and plenty of people who are walking down the same path.
