Is Your CPA Review Course Working for You?

You made the decision to enroll in a CPA Review course knowing that doing so statistically improves your chances of passing the CPA Exam. Yet, are you now second-guessing the review course because it isn’t working well for you? Below are some ways to know whether or not your CPA Review course is right for you. 

1. Lackluster program with ineffective learning style.  For decades, some of the “oldest” CPA Review providers have been able to get away with charging top dollar for an ineffective learning model and a lackluster program simply because they have been around the longest. Perhaps you chose them because your accounting professors or colleagues used them. But, do not make the mistake of assuming a CPA Review provider is the best just because they have been around for a long time—today’s learner is very different from the learner of fifty years ago.
   
2. Program has technological gimmicks that don’t work. It is important for your CPA Review course to have streamlined technology that works. Your program should have learner-focused technology, not just gimmicks. Some courses attempt to fit an antiquated linear-learning model into an online platform. This results in an ineffective and disjointed learning experience. At a glance, aspects of their program may be perceived as “high-tech,” but this is just a façade. Once you proceed past the student dashboard, you’ll find they’ve patched on meaningless gizmos that incentivize students to complete study steps, rather than aim for proficiency in the content. It shouldn’t be this difficult. As a CPA Exam candidate expected to work through mountains of information, you need a more efficient system to guide you through to the finish line.
   
3. The program doesn’t work with different learning styles. We know that no two CPA candidates are exactly alike. Everyone has a different learning style – some are visual, verbal, kinesthetic, etc. If you’re an auditory learner, engaging lectures will probably be important for you. If you’re a visual learner, you’ll want to prioritize a course that provides educational illustrations. If you’re looking for a high-quality question bank or performance metrics, you’ll want to take these into consideration as well. 

All CPA Review courses are the same in that their ultimate goal is to prepare you to pass the CPA Exam. What makes each course different is how they achieve that goal. A mediocre review course will rely on memorization tactics, as opposed to ensuring you truly understand the core material. A great review course will cater to all learning styles, and provide the tools you need to master the concepts. With the right combination of high-quality content, challenging practice questions, motivating lectures, and more, you can feel confident in knowing you are ready to take on the CPA Exam.
