Why did you take Roger CPA Review?

I’m not a “teach it to yourself” kind of learner. I need someone to break it down for me. I started out studying with another well known review course and quickly realized that having the book read to me during the “lectures” was getting me nowhere. A co-worker was using Roger and asked me if I would like to study with her. After just one lecture, I knew Roger was the review course for me. Not only does he write on the board(which takes me back to my college days), he breaks it down and gives you examples to help you truly understand the material, not just memorize it.

What was your favorite aspect of the course?

As I mentioned above, I love that he writes on the board, but he isn’t just writing what’s already printed in the book for you. He breaks it down and gives real world examples(or sometimes completely made up ones) to help you truly get a grasp on the material and you don’t feel like a robot trying to remember memorized material. You can take the information you learned and apply it to the specific question asked.

How has passing the exam affected your personal and professional life?

Public accounting can be discouraging. Much like the CPA exam itself. Sometimes it makes you question if you are really smart enough for the profession. But each passing score gives you a little bit of confidence, not only for your next section, but for your career.

What piece of advice do you have for other CPA Exam candidates?

As cliche as it is, “Don’t give up. Don’t put it off. Just dig in. Your friends will be upset for missing a dinner or two here and there, but they will be so happy for you when you passed. Even though all of them will claim ‘I told you so.'”
