2014 Licensure Changes: Proposed Legislation & How You Should Prepare

Breaking News

If you are a California resident, you know that 2014 Licensure changes have been that gray cloud following you and your CPA dreams around.  Today, we wanted to shed some light and hopefully provide a big dose of motivation as to why you should be on the way to completing all 4 parts of your CPA Exam this year.
The California Board of Accountancy has voted to submit legislation to extend the time to file an application under one of the two existing licensure pathways. Thats right, more time! Theres one catch though, the only way to qualify is to pass all 4 parts of the CPA exam, by December 31, 2013.  However, once you get your CPA Exam out of the way, you will have until December 31, 2015 to obtain your work experience, complete the educational requirements, pass the Ethics exam and apply for licensure. Keep in mind that this bill has not officially passed yet and may not until close to the end of the year.
The expectation, however, is that this action will be non-controversial and thus adopted. Therefore, we recommend a proactive approach as you will have to pass the CPA Exam regardless. For those who have graduated and are waiting to get signed with a firm, stay ahead of the game and take the CPA Exam NOW so you have a better chance of getting licensed locally or nationally under California’s current Pathways.
If this legislation passes, students who are graduating this Spring will also have a chance to work on getting their CPA Licensure under the current requirements.  If you are in your last semester of school, make sure to create an account with the California State Board of Accountancy immediately and have your transcripts sent as soon as they have been processed.  You will have two testing windows to complete  all 4 CPA Exam sections.

For those in a Masters Accounting Program, you don’t have to wait until you graduate to sit for the exam. If you have a Bachelors degree in Accounting, you are all set and ready to sit. You do not want to miss the boat on this one! Create an account with the California State Board of Accountancy and enroll in Roger CPA Review to prepare for your CPA Exams today!
