This is Why Roger CPA Review Gives Back

It’s that time again! Every quarter, Roger CPA Review staff across the nation participate in our company-wide program, #RogerCPAReviewGivesBack. This is an employee volunteer initiative where team members are encouraged to take time out of their regular work days to give back to an organization of their choice.

Today, we’re highlighting all of our staff’s efforts at different charities in different places. See where everyone spent their volunteer hours, which organizations they chose to support, and why they think it’s important to contribute their time and efforts to give back to their communities.

Roger Philipp – CEO

San Francisco Food Bank

We volunteered at the San Francisco Food Bank, whose mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin.

We helped box produce and package food to deliver groceries and nourishment to neighbors in need. It’s always rewarding to see my kids understand that not everyone is able to have access to fresh food and that it’s important to give back to the communities in which we live.

Spending time together as a family volunteering our time and efforts is important for us to bond and to help us always appreciate everything we have while simultaneously giving a part of ourselves to those who have less.

I’m especially happy to provide my staff with the same opportunity and know that always emphasize that giving back is instrumental to the way we should live our lives personally and profesionally.

Connie Morinello – Business Development Representative, Northeast

Fort Hamilton Military Base

This is an annual Family/Community day event held at the Fort Hamilton Military Base. I assisted with the set up and during the actual event with various tasks. I have been supporting the military community since 9/11, as my way of giving back for the sacrifices they make and dedication in serving our country. I enjoy interacting with the families and military members, especially with the children, some of which have to deal with anywhere from a 7-12 month separation when their parent(s) are deployed.

Seeing how Roger CPA Review allows its staff to take a few hours out of their work day to do something they believe in tells a lot about the company and how much it appreciates their employees. This opportunity allowed me to support a cause I am very passionate about.

Eric Wong – Email Marketing Coordinator

The Nashville Food Project

I worked in the gardens at the Nashville Food project where they take the food grown and make meals for those who need it. Specifically, I turned compost, transported growing soil, and helped pick produce.

I chose this organization because hunger is an important issue that affects a lot of people. I’d like to help ease their burden while also working outdoors. It’s great to know that people are getting healthy, locally grown food.

Knowing that the work I’m doing is going to help feed those who are in need is very rewarding. It’s a great experience and I’m glad my company allows me to give back to my community!

Joseph Civetz – Accounts Payable/Payroll Specialist

One Brick

I picked up trash sand debris at Ocean Beach and La Playa Park. I chose to volunteer for this program because I hate litter and believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and public spaces without being hindered by trash.

The most rewarding thing about my experience was being able to be outdoors in a nice evening and happy to know that I was helping preserve the integrity of these public spaces. I also enjoyed getting out of my comfort zone and meeting new people!

Madeleine Cheezum – Director of Creative Services

Jackie Muralla – Sr. Business Development Representative, Southern CA

Long Beach Rescue Mission

We spent our time in the kitchen helping prepare food for meals later that day. This included chopping lots and lots of vegetables and quartering many raw chickens!

The Long Beach Rescue Mission doesn’t only serve the city’s homeless community; it provides a means to get one’s life back together. Yes, they open to the public for meals throughout the week, but those that are accepted as residences are guaranteed three full meals a day, housing, and ongoing support and guidance for a full year to help them get back into society. They are a mission with a mission!

From the philanthropic point of view, it is extremely rewarding to help prepare meals for a great cause and those in need. They run a tight ship in the kitchen, so it was great learning from those guys!

We helped with Thanksgiving Day servie last year, and hope to lend our hands over the holidays once again!

Karina Khadaran – Marketing & Business Development Manager

Dress for Success

I sorted through donations to see what was acceptable, what was appropriate for a sale, and what could be donated elsewhere.

I chose this organization because of what it does for women and because of the location. This international not-for-profit organization empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and life. Knowing that what I was doing was helping women who really need it was the most rewarding part about my experience.

I never have enough time to volunteer during non-work hours as a busy mom, so the opportunity Roger CPA Review provides is great!

Matt Boronkay – Marketing Analyst

Berkeley Humane Society

I helped feed, walk, and keep dogs in my local Berkeley shelter company.

I chose this organization because I love dogs and want to better them in any and every way possible! The most rewarding thing about my experience was being able to climb into a cage with a few puppies that were so happy to have someone to play with and spend time with them.

While I regularly volunteer here, it can be difficult to make time for it on a weekly basis. This program provided by our company makes it so much easier to allow me to do something I really care about!

Rachel McGee – Business Development Representative, Mid-Atlantic

Animal Protection Society of Durham

I walked dogs, washed their toys, and played with them. I chose this organization because I love giving back to the community by working with animals of all shapes and sizes!

The most rewarding thing about my volunteer experience was spending time with Fletcher, a young dog with a lot of energy. I felt very accomplished helping him get the exercise and attention he needed for the day.

I love that my company allows me to honor the community I live in by giving back to it.

Sean Adams – Business Development Manager, West

No Kid Hungry

I helped run the entrance to a large food festival where profits go to make sure no kid in America grows up hungry. I also assisted with a photo booth at the event.

I chose this organization because my girlfriend is a chair for the LA event: Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry. She is highly involved in the organization and I volunteer every year for this event. This is definitely a cause I feel strongly about and the event is always amazing to work at.

Knowing that I can assist with the organization to help prevent child hunger in our country is always the most rewarding thing for me. This hits home as I am raising a 4 year old daughter, and I would never want other children to struggle with hunger.

This is the second time I have participated in our company’s volunteer program and I will continue to do so. I feel so fortunate to work for a company that encourages us to volunteer and makes it part of our culture.
