Accounting Today announced that “A new international accounting association proposed by the American institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) was overwhelmingly approved in separate votes by the organizations’ members.”

The new association, expected to launch in 2017, will represent approximately 600,000 accountants around the world. Current the AICPA and CIMA members will automatically have dual membership, with no additional fees.

The AICPA states the reason behind the new association is to, “meet the needs of members today while anticipating change and adapting to keep the profession vital tomorrow. “

Tim Christen, CPA, CGMA and the AICPA Chairman of the Board, states the AICPA and CIMA Joint Venture Evolution will allow for better advocating and promoting of CPAs and the accounting profession.

The new association will:

  • Deepen support for public and management accounting
  • Find strength in numbers for the purpose of advocacy
  • Extend the relevancy of the profession across borders and long into the future
