CPA Questions & Answers

What do I do after I pass the CPA Exam?

Every state or jurisdiction is different, but here’s a general overview of what to expect:

  1. Verify that you meet the state’s requirements – Visit the website of your State Board of Accountancy or Nasba.org in order to confirm that you meet the requirements to get licensed.
  2. Pass the ethics exam – Many states require that candidates pass an ethics exam prior to licensing. Some jurisdictions accept the AICPA Ethics Exam while others administer their own.
  3. Apply for certification – Submit requested documents and pay applicable fees to obtain your CPA license.
  4. Stay certified – After celebrating that you have completed this rigorous process, make sure that you keep your certification in good standing. Check your state’s CPE requirements on learningmarket.org (click on the name of the state after you perform the search) and don’t forget to pay the license renewal fees.
