Put Down the Turkey Leg and Get Your Head in the Game!

Thanksgiving has come and gone, signifying the end of the 2012 testing season. Come December, all you CPA hopefuls will be starting or continuing your studies during the blackout month, in preparation for the first testing window in January.

During this precious black out month is when a study plan is vital. With the holidays looming and distractions afoot, its easy to get sucked into the world of coffee cake, new movie releases, and playing in the snow. The trick is to stay focused, plan for some fun, but keep your goals in mind!

Step 2   Understand the exam study process Knowing how much time you will dedicate to each section of the CPA Exam is a must. To the right is a simple chart that Roger will cover, detailing how much time you can anticipate with Roger teaching you the material, then how much additional study time you need to dedicate to each part.

Step 3   Set your CPA Exam Goals When do you want to finish the CPA Exam? Think long-term here. You have 18 months to pass all 4 parts but do you really want to take that much time? Do you have busy season to consider? School, family, work? Roger will help you determine a reasonable timeline that will fit your schedule.

Take a look at our Study Planners too they are a great tool in helping you understand how much study time you will need to dedicate if you want to sit for the CPA Exam in 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. These planners also keep our students on that path once they’ve decided their goal.

Step 4   Apply and Schedule Right Away! This section covers how to go about applying and scheduling your CPA Exam. Your application can take up to 6 weeks to be processed, so plan to study for your first part during that time.

There is a famous quote by Harvey Mackay which says, If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Keep this in mind as you embark on your CPA journey. Be continually assessing your goals to stay on track. By following the steps that Roger says and putting in the necessary time, you are sure to become a CPA in no time!
